Barroso’s participation in EPP summit means support, Vlad Filat

The President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso took part in the second Eastern Partnership Summit of the European People’s Party (EPP) that was held in Armenia’s Yerevan. Attending the event, Prime Minister Vlad Filat said that Jose Manuel Barroso’s participation in this event has a special significance as it shows the support provided in achieving the objectives set in concert, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to a communiqué from the Government, the meeting chaired by the EPP chairman Wilfried Martens was attended by the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan and the President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili. Vlad Filat said in his speech that even if it’s only half a year of the first Eastern Partnership Summit that was held in Georgia’s Batumi, the intensity and pace of developments on the European continent confirm the importance of the institutionalization of cooperation at the highest level in the context of the Eastern Partnership. The Premier reiterated that Moldova is committed to ensuring the efficient management of the complex modernization process. “We are determined to promote in continuation a pro-active and responsible approach in coherently and consistently using the opportunities offered by the Eastern Partnership,” said Vlad Filat. The fist Eastern Partnership Summit of the EPP took place in Batumi in summer. The initiative to join efforts within the Eastern Partnership was put forward at the party’s congress held in Marseille at the end of 2011.
