Moldova-Agroindbank (MAIB) has warned its clients about the danger of thefts of bank account data by phishing methods, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a warning issued by the bank. Given the phishing cases discovered, MAIB calls on the clients to protect the personal data for using bank services over the Internet as the users of the bank’s Internet-Banking service are the target of swindlers. MAIB warns the clients that the Internet-Banking service is accessed only from the bank’s official website – www.maib.md and no other sites that have interface identical with MAIB Web Banking. If the access data have been introduced on a different site, one should immediately access the personal account from the bank’s official website so as to register and change the PIN and hinder the offenders from stealing money. MAIB reminds that it never asks for such confidential information as password, card number, expiration date of the card and PIN number by email. The clients that receive such messages are asked to contact the bank and inform about such them. According to the Free Encyclopedia Wikipedia, in computing, phishing is the criminally fraudulent process of attempting to acquire sensitive information such as usernames, passwords and credit card details, by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication. Phishing is typically carried out by e-mail or instant messaging, and it often directs users to enter details at a website. The messages may look quite authentic, featuring corporate logos and formats similar to the ones used for legitimate messages. Phishing is an example of social engineering techniques used to fool users. The AntiPhishing Working Group, a consortium that brings together businesses affected by phishing attacks, businesses that provide security products and law enforcement, reports a growing number of phishing incidents.
