Bank lawyer caught red handed

The senior lawyer of a commercial bank has been arrested by the Centre for Combating Economic Crimes and Corruption (CCECC), on suspicion of extortion and bribe taking. According to CCECC, the lawyer was caught in the act while he was receiving a bribe worth EUR 1,000. The police learned about the “deal” from the person who was supposed to give the bribe – a lady director of a commercial bank from Chisinau who informed the Centre about the fact that the lawyer had demanded a MDL 18,500 bribe for freeing her from repaying a loan worth MDL 37,000. The suspect was caught when the woman was giving the sum of EUR 1,000 at the intersection of Tighina and 31 August streets. The bills were marked with a special chemical solution. On the same day, the lawyer was charged with bribery under the Article 333 p. 2 of the Penal Code. Twenty-one cases of bribery have been registered from the beginning of this year.
