The Chisinau municipality will open a bank account to collect money for the owners of the 28 apartments that burned completely on May 1. The head of Botanica district Vladimir Guritsenko Monday said that letters will be sent to companies working in the district to ask them to help the people who remained without a home, IPN reports.

According to Vladimir Guritsenko, two special commissions were created to find out the causes and assess the damage caused by the fire. One of them will determine the losses suffered by the dwellers of the attack-like apartment story, while the other one – the damage sustained by the people living on the floor below, whose apartments were flooded when the fire was being extinguished. Most of the families whose apartments were destroyed by fire no longer want to live in that block if the attack-like apartments are restored. Those apartments were not insured. Seven families continue to live at the Boarding School No. 2, while the others were sheltered by relatives or friends.

The damage caused by the fire in the attack-like apartment story was assessed at 10.3 million lei. The sum represents the price of the apartments and possessions that burned in the fire.

Representatives of the Chisinau Finance Division said the municipal reserve fund includes only seven million lei. Therefore, Mayor General of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca asked amending the 2014 municipal budget so as to identify more resources and help the fire victims. Given that the damage caused by the fire is higher than the reserve fund, discussions will be held with the victims to see what the contribution of the local public authorities will be in the end.
