Banca de Economii depositors that submitted applications before April 1 may receive indexed savings

The depositors of Banca de Economii (Savings Bank) born before 1954, who submitted applications by April 1, 2008 can get their savings indexed at the first stage at the branches of the bank, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Government’s Savings Indexation Commission informs that the bank’s depositors born before 1954 can file applications for being included in the list of 2008 recipients until May 1, 2008 at any of the branches of the bank. At the first stage, the depositors receive by 1,000 lei according to the ratio 1 leu:1 Soviet rubble. The cumulative balance will be paid according to the ratio 1 leu:2.5 Soviet rubbles, but only after all the depositors that had accounts in the Soviet Sberbank until 1992 take the first 1,000 rubbles indexed. After the Moldovan leu was introduced on 29 November 1993 and the prices were liberalized, the population’s savings depreciated over 1,000 times.
