Moldova imposed restrictions on the import of poultry from a number of regions of Ukraine, Poland, the Russian Federation and Germany, where avian influenza was reported. The bans announced by the National Food Safety Agency apply both to business entities and private individuals who cross the state border.
The period of the bans will vary depending on the area and the actions taken by the authorities to eliminate the virus, the Agency’s vice director Vsevolod Stamati specified for IPN.
To be able to import poultry, the business entities must present certificates of origin that confirm the safety of goods at the customs post. In case of private individuals, these will be unable to import poultry into Moldova if they do not possess official documents showing the origin of the merchandise.
The information about the areas from which poultry cannot be imported and the period of restrictions is updated weekly. It is available on ansa.gov.md depending on the notifications received by Moldova from the World Organization for Animal Health.
It should be noted that imports represent about 50% of chicken consumption in Moldova, with 47% of this meat being imported from Ukraine.
In another development, Vsevolod Stamati said the Republic of Moldova is monitored at international level for disease. The official gave the African swine fever as example. Moldova cannot now export pork because of this. If the sanitary level is maintained appropriately for a year and no new cases of infection appear, Moldova will be able to export pork as of November 2017.
