The heads of the Baltic States and Poland called, during a meeting in Vilnius, on NATO leadership to take the decision to extend further to the east, attracting Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia, Info-Prim Neo informs referring to the Ukrainian press.
The statement shows that the North Atlantic Alliance must run an open door policy further on.
President of Poland Lech Kaczynski stated that the Alliance’s extension will not be discussed at NATO Summit in Riga, which will be held by the end of this month, but certain signals must be launched to the candidates. Ukraine and Georgia must be ensured as regards the future membership, even if it a matter of far future.
On the other hand, there are other opinions within NATO. France, for instance, pleads for a union of the states in the West Europe and America.
During the meeting with the Russian President Vladimir Putin, held in late August, in the Kremlin, President Vladimir Voronin proposed him a plan including six topics, intended to establish the rules in Moldovan-Russian relations. The guarantee of the status of permanent neutrality of Moldova is ranging among them. In the experts’ opinion that means the perspectives of Moldova’s accession to the North Atlantic Alliance would be buried for ever.
