The administration of Balti municipality has announced the contest of grants “Civic budget 2019”. Submissions will be accepted until April 5. Coordinator of the program Renata Grădinaru, municipal councilor, said there are no financing limits per project. The selected projects that will be financed with the total budget of 420,000 lei will be made known in May, IPN reports.

To take part in the contest, those interested should fill out a form that can be downloaded from the official website of the Bălți mayor’s office. After the April 5 deadline, the projects will be made public.

At the first stage, a commission consisting of 15 members who are employees of the Bălți mayor’s office and two representatives of NGOs will assess the projects. Those that will have all the appraisals needed for implementation will be proposed for public voting that will last for ten days. Those interested could vote the favorite project with the identity card at nine libraries and library branches in Balti between 1pm and 5pm.

The contest is open only to private individuals or initiative groups that should collect signatures from at least 20 supporters of the presented initiative. According to Renata Grădinaru, 80% of the initiatives are usually submitted by parents, students, representatives of administrations of schools and kindergartens. Most often the participants ask for financing for setting up waste storage platforms, outfitting classrooms or gyms, installing paving or roofs, etc.

The organizers said the main objective of the contest of grants is to establish cooperation relations with the citizens of the municipality and to engage them in the implementation of social projects on the territory of Balti municipality so as to solve local problems.

Six of the ten projects submitted last year were chosen for financing and a sum of 300,000 lei was allocated for implementing them.
