Balti Court of Appeals to rule on validation of Dorin Chirtoaca’s seat

The Balti Court of Appeals is to consider whether to validate the seat of mayor of Dorin Chirtoaca or not, the Communist Party’s representative Sergiu Sarbu has told Info-Prim Neo, referring to the Supreme Court of Justice’s decision. Last week, the Communists requested the Supreme Court of Justice to transfer the case concerning the validation of the seat of mayor of Chisinau from the Chisinau Court of Appeals to another appeals court. They argued that the judges of the Chisinau Court of Appeals take political decisions. The Communist Party demands rerunning the mayoral elections as the runoff vote in Chisinau was accompanied by violations and falsifications. The Centru district court validated the results of the June 19 elections according to which the Liberal Party’s candidate Dorin Chirtoaca emerged victorious by winning 50.6% of the vote, while his Communist opponent Igor Dodon polled 49.4% of the ballot.
