The Sangera-based drug making company BalkanPharmaceuticals will produce antibiotics. While on a visit to the plant that is being built, acting Prime Minister Vlad Filat said that the drugs made in Moldova will increase their presence on the European market after the Free Trade Agreement is signed with the EU, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué from the Government.

BalkanPharmaceuticals is the second largest in Europe. Vlad Filat visited the production sections that are 80% ready and will become functional in September. “I’m glad that such considerable investments were made in Moldova, which needs them on the pharmaceutical market,” he stated.

BalkanPharmaceuticals director general Silviu Chiru said that Moldova’s strategic location will enable to export products to the CIS. When the plant starts work, about 400 persons will have a job, while the number of produced drugs will be much higher. “After we appeared on the Moldovan market, the prices of many medicines fell by at least 50%,” said Silviu Chiru.

BalkanPharmaceuticals started work in Moldova in 2007. It now employs 80 persons and produces 127 types of drugs. The plant occupies an area of 18,000 square meters. The investments in the company amounted to about €38 million.
