The reinforcing was built up in an incorrect position. Such a conclusion was reached by the commission set up to examine the causes of the collapse of the sixth-floor balcony of a building located on Eugen Coca St, IPN reports. The commission’s head Valeriu Verstiuc told a news conference that if the documents concerning the building of the block exist, the person responsible for the construction works can be held accountable.
The expert said that the constructions supported by corbels are generally vulnerable as they are permanently under atmospheric influence, including rain and snow.
The balcony caved in on February 20. One of the two men who was on the balcony got stuck in concrete slabs between the fifth and sixth floors, but wasn’t hurt. The other one fell down and was rushed to the hospital in a serious condition. He died one week later.
