Balance of deposits and loans goes down

The balance of deposits in the banking system in January this year fell by about 13.554 million lei from a month before to about 22.683 million at the end of January. The balance of loans in January decreased by 1.110,3 million lei on December 2007 to 510.3 million lei, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the National Bank of Moldova.
According to the central bank, the legal entities in January deposited savings of about 13.199,7 million lei in Moldovan lei and 4.510,4 million lei in foreign currency. The private individuals deposited in banks 2.916,5 million lei in Moldovan lei and about 2.056 million lei in foreign currency.
In January, the legal entities took out loans of 439.79 million, while the private individuals – of 86.2 million lei.
The home loans made up 16.49% of the total loans, while the consumption loans – 24.94%.
The balance of deposits in the banking system in 2008 rose by 16.6% or 3.423,3 million lei from a year earlier to 24.085 million lei. The balance of loans last year increased by 20.3% or 4.238,8 million lei compared with 2007, to 25.122 million lei.
