The Executing Department of the Justice Ministry has sequestered the transport means of the Chisinau City Hall and Municipal Council, the head of the Hall’s Legal Department Diana Gurschi has told the morning meeting of the administration. The sequestration has been applied on 10 cars worth 16 million lei, Info-Prim Neo reports. The seizure comes because of the municipality not honoring the court writs dealing with not granting dwelling space for the last 10 years. The applicants – most of them being policemen, prosecutors, judges and army officers – addressed courts and managed to win the trials, following which the local authorities are to pay them the amounts of money equivalent to the price of the dwellings they are legally entitled to. Diana Gurschi says the sequestered cars can neither be sold, nor leave Moldova, until those 16 million lei are paid off by the municipality. Earlier, the bailiffs sequestered 10 million lei from those 78 million lei: the total price of those 139 apartments claimed,” said the lawyer. Chisinau’s general mayor Dorin Chirtoaca has said the total amount of those 10 cars does not exceed 100,000 euros. Thus the applied sequester is ten times bigger than the price of the cars, said the mayor. Earlier, Dorin Chirtoaca said, by seizing the local administration’s cars, the central authorities attempted to block the work of the local authorities, so that the municipality got insolvent. Deputy mayor Mihai Furtuna says the local administrations are not entitled to offer apartments to representatives of force bodies, as the law implies that ministries and departments shall do so. The local budget cannot bear such expenses, Furtuna has stated, pointing out that any dwelling space becoming free is immediately sequestered. Yet, they go on demanding that the writs be executed.
