Chisinau residents using co-generation heating, also known locally as centralized heating, won’t have to endure interruptions of heat and hot water supply during pipe replacement anymore. This will become possible with the introduction of a back-to-back, or reverse system by the utility Termoelectrica.

The utility said in a press release the solution involves an alternative supply ring which will take over as the main one is shut down for repairs.

The system will especially benefit the city district of Buiucani, where in the last 15 years all major leaks or planned repairs have invariably led to disruptions in hot water supply.

To ensure that Buiucani residents get uninterrupted services at all times, Termoelectrica rehabilitated 300 meters of a 300mm pipe in the Cathedral Park and enlarged another one, from 150mm to 200mm, on Doga Street. It also implemented the back-to-back system on the 400mm main from Mihai Viteazu Street.

Now Termoelectrica is announcing the start of a three-week effort to substitute a major, 700mm heat supply pipe with energy-effective replacements without having to cut off any neighborhood from its services.
