This year, teachers asked bribes ranging from 200 to 10,000 lei to help students pass gymnasium or baccalaureate exams. Ruslan Flocea, officer of the Center for Fighting Economic Crimes and Corruption, mentioned a special case: the parents of a boy in the fourth grade had to pay 1,000 lei to obtain the permission for his transfer to another school, Info-Prim Neo reports. A professor from the College of Medicine in Cahul was held after he had requested each of the 17 graduates to pay 50 euro for good marks. According to Flocea, during the 20 day the exams took place, CFECC received only 15 calls, including 10 anonymous, regarding corruption cases. “All these calls were about teachers or over persons who claimed to have relations, which collected money promising students they would be helped to pass the exam” he mentioned. Overall, CFECC started 8 prosecutions related to exams, 2 of which for baccalaureate bribery. Ruslan Flocea explained there were a lot of methods used to help students take the exam, such as mobile phones, scanners, cameras or teachers that did the test before the exam and transmitted the solutions to students. CFECC will request the Ministry of Education to re-verify the papers of students believed to have cheated.
