A man from Azerbaijan who settled at the place of his partner in Rezina district was sentenced to 10 years in jail for ill-treating the woman and setting fire to her, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, last December the two drank alcoholic beverages together and then started to quarrel. The man hit the woman and then splashed an inflammable substance onto her and set her on fire. The victim died shortly afterward.

It was later established that the man used to beat his partner and was earlier tried.

The 46-year-old man was sentenced to 10 years behind bars for domestic violence that resulted in death. The court also obliged the man to pay 20,000 lei damages to the victim’s son.

The sentence is not yet definitive.
