“Ax-art 2006” opens in Chisinau

The IX edition of the National Exhibition of Graphic Art, Photography and Folk Craft “Ax-art-2006” was inaugurated on Thursday, June 21 at CIE “Moldexpo” in Chisinau. The event will last four days, this being the only exhibition in Moldova which gathers together all the genres of modern art: painting, graphics, sculpture, folk creation, photography.
According to the organisers, the project “Art-Ax” aims at making popular and contributing to maintaining the values of the society in times when the artist has to survive. At the same, time the exhibition offers the possibility of establishing business contacts.
The exhibition presents works of painters from Georgia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, and Ukraine, who are the members of “Ars-Dor” association. Sculptures which represent the national essence and brilliance are displayed by Ion Cretu, Veaceslav Jiglitchi, artistic ceramics – by Olga Coseli, brothers Scutelnic and Nadejda Timosenco, wood carving – Gheorghe Posternac, Victor Pelin. The collections of photography are exhibited by Alexandru Denisov, Nicolae Meniuc, Veaceslav Sologub. The century-old traditions of the popular handcrafters are presented by Silvia Antohi, Natalia Cangea, Eugenia Moldovanu, Pavel Taranu, the members of the Union of Graphic Artists.
The exhibition includes such events as roundtables on reviving the village on national values basis, promoting the products created by the folk craftsmen both on the internal and external market, creation of small and middle sized enterprises etc.
The traditional contest “Beauty as seen by amateurs” will be organised within the exhibition. Workshops will be organised on issues such as artistic embroidery, handicraft, origami, where every amateur has the occasion to learn the secrets of the art from well-known folk craftsmen.
