The weighted average purchase price of natural gas under the contracts signed by SA Energocom is much lower than the price offered now by the Russian company Gazprom according to the formula invented in October 2021, said Alexandru Slusari, who is a member of the Board of Energocom. Recently, Energocom signed contracts for the supply of natural gas with three companies, IPN reports.

“I understand the society’s curiosity about the purchase price of the gas bought by Energocom. But the procurement process goes on. We have tender contests each week. Any revelation about the prices can now influence these up and this will have negative consequences for the whole country,” stated Alexandru Slusari.

According to him, the basis for Moldova’s energy security is now being laid. Alexandru Slusari assures that the procurement process takes place in a transparent way, in accordance with the special regulations that were recently approved by the new Administration Board.

“An increasing number of European companies come to our market. Competition grows. To my mind, there is a big difference compared with the transactions of the autumn of 2022, which didn’t have an appropriate legal basis. But I will tell about this later. I need more information. I think when the gas procurement process is over, Energocom will publish detailed information about the prices at which methane was bought,” said Alexandru Slusari.

Earlier this week, Energocom announced that contracts for the supply of natural gas were signed with three companies. Two of these companies will supply gas to SA Energocom for the first time. No other details about the contracts are provided, including the purchase prices. “The price is very close to what we have now on the exchanges. We are storing in order to benefit in winter too from this favorable conjuncture on the market. We are making effort to engage more companies in this process so as to have greater competition and more competitive prices,” said the acting director of Energocom Victor Bînzari.
