The nominal gross average monthly salary of an employee in 2022 was 10,447 lei, up 16.3% compared to 2021. While salaries increased, the number of employees decreased by 1.3%, shows data released by the National Bureau of Statistics.
The highest salaries were recorded in information and communications, financial and insurance activities and production and supply of electricity and heat, gas, hot water and air conditioning. Meanwhile, the lowest salaries were received by employees in accommodation and public catering services, agriculture, forestry and fishing and art, recreation and leisure activities.
In the public sector, the average gross monthly salary in 2022 was 8,891.1 lei, and 10,954.7 lei in the private sector (23.2% more than in the budget sector). Of the total average number of employees, 75.4% were employed in the private sector, and 24.6% in the public sector.
In 2022, women earned an average gross monthly salary of 9,618.4 lei, 15.5% (or 1,762.3 lei) lower than that of men (11,380.7 lei). At the same time, women are prevalent among employees, or 53% of the total.
At the end of 2022, 29.8 thousand vacant jobs were registered, which constitutes 3.9% of the total number of jobs.
