At the end of the Parliament’s autumn session, Speaker Andrian Candu said the session took place in a period of maximum political intensity because of the election campaign. Therefore, the MPs sat less, but intense work was done at the level of commissions and a record number of hearings were held, IPN reports.

The official noted that the prosecution service reform was finally completed. Parliament fulfilled its duties to society and gave the prosecutors and judges all the instruments asked by civil society. Now society will be able to seek results from these. “We want a country free from corruption,” stated Andrian Candu.

He also said that the National Integrity Commission was set up and this will have to show that it is different from the National Integrity Commission not only by name, but also by efficiency.

“In the current session, we promoted reforms, including at the cost of our popularity. For the first time, after two decades of stagnation, we managed to do a vital reform in the social insurance system so that the people get pensions based on their contributions, not posts. From next year, the people will benefit from a significant rise in pensions. This year we managed to remove the shortcomings accumulated in the past and, as a result, we have an agreement with the IMF. We also managed to halve the number of inspection bodies. After many years, we ensured predictability for entrepreneurships by adopting the budgetary-fiscal policy before entering a new year,” stated the Speaker.

The group heads didn’t give speeches at session-end. Only the leader of the Communist group Inna Supac in a speech criticized the Parliament’s work, saying that after the decisions taken this session, 99% of the ordinary Moldovans became poorer, while the 1% of oligarchs became richer. She noted that the direct presidential elections, which she called illegal, divided the people further. The Party of Communists is yet confident that the people will have enough courage to change the situation in 2017 by early parliamentary elections.
