The automotive sector of the Republic of Moldova has potential. During the last few years, it became one of the most dynamic sectors, Vitalie Zaharia, director of the Moldova Investment Attraction and Export Promotion Organization (MIEPO), said in the ceremony to open the international forum “Moldova Automotive Days” on June 13, IPN reports.

According to Vitalie Zaharia, the presence of international automotive parts manufacturers in the Republic of Moldova has a beneficial effect. The sector contributed to the development of the Moldovan economy and to the creation of a significant number of jobs. “The automotive sector in Moldova has become more attractive for foreign investors. That’s why we decided to come together for discussions, experience exchange and to develop project proposals, business partnerships in the long run. The potential is enormous,” stated the MIEPO director.

Attending the event, Prime Minister Pavel Filip said the international forum “Moldova Automotive Days” represents the start of industrial revitalization in the Republic of Moldova. By increasing the attractiveness of this industry, we develop the country. The automotive sector is a leader in creating jobs. During a short period of time, it created thousands of jobs and we are confident that this process will continue,” stated the Premier.

For his part, Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Pirkka Tapiola said that Moldova has increasing chances to become an industrialized country. The extension of the automotive industry can be one of the main pillars of economic development. “We must look at the future. There is a lot of space to grow. The workforce is a problem. Many skillful young people went abroad to work. Special emphasis should be placed on the professional training of the young generation,” said the European diplomat.

On June 13 and 14, Chisinau hosts a meeting of major producers and suppliers of the automotive industry within the Moldova Automotive Days 2017. The goal of the event is to facilitate the establishment of business partnerships with global auto parts manufacturers and local suppliers. The forum involves representatives of almost 50 companies from Germany, Japan, Italy, the United Sates and other countries and of over 70 local companies. According to the Ministry of Economy, Moldova’s exports of car parts in 2016 totaled over €350 million, which is almost thrice more than in 2012.
