The Writers Union named the best authors and best book titles of 2018 in the Awards Gala held on June 21. The winners received diplomas and money awards from the organizers, IPN reports.
Writers Union president Arcadie Suceveanu said the Gala is a holidays of books, writing and simultaneously of debates to assess the results of the literary year 2018, when over 100 book titles appeared. Literary scholarships this year weren’t awarded owing to the latest sociopolitical events.
The award for the best poetry book went to Svetlana Corobceanu for “Hidden in the light”. The award for prose was given to Oleg Serebrean for the novel “Woldemar”. The author didn’t attend the Gala, but sent a message, saying the Writers Union’s award is a “high-quality certificate”. He noted he approved of the jury’s decision as he had competition given that 2018 was rich in very good works.
Moni Stănilă won the award for the best children’s and youth book “War of Solomonars”, while Mircea V. Ciobanu’s “The critic’s falls into reality” was named the best essay, criticism and literary history book.
Dumitrița Bologan was awarded for the debut book “Oxford Journal”. The debut award of the Writers Union and of the Literary Fund went to Emanuela Iurkin for the book “Bronze Dog”.
In the event, the Board of the Writers Union also handed over awards. Special awards were given to Mihail Gheorghe Ciubotaru, Tudor Zanet, Iuliu Cârchelan and Fabian Nicolae. The Opera Omnia Award went to writer Val Butnaru, the Excellence Award to writer Călina Trifan, the Cultural Relations Award to writers Vasile Șoimaru and Sergey Evstratiev, while the Nizami Award conferred by the Congress of Azerbaijanis in Moldova was given to writers Ilie Zegrea and Nicolae Spătaru.
Literary critic and secretary of the jury Ana Bantoș said that while assessing the works, she noted the authors tended to refer to the current realities in their works and this is very good. Poetry became very diverse and style and language changes could be seen. The massive involvement of young people in the creation process is welcome.
More than 100 books were nominated at the Awards Gala this year.
