Two Italian companies announced their intention to invest over €1.5million in Moldova. The first company will specialize in growing wheat, corn and other organic products that will be exported to the EU. Also, a production group from Torino plans to open a steel and iron processing factory in Moldova. The director general of the Moldova Investment Attraction and Export Promotion Organization Vitalie Zaharia spoke about the results of the Moldova Business Week 2017 that was held during October 3-6, IPN reports.
According to Vitalie Zaharia, the Moldova Business Week included a large number of meetings and visits to companies operating in the agrifood and textiles industries, in free economic zones and industrial parks. Agreements of intent and import pre-contracts were signed in these.
The participants in the Forum of Exporters could interact with over 16 distribution networks from the EU, Russia and Azerbaijan. Four companies signed pre-contracts for the supply of agrifood products to the EU. A company signed a pre-contract for the supply of footwear and specialized working equipment to Germany and France. Two companies will import Moldovan products for the Romanian market. A Latvian company will import clothing items, while a Romanian company intends to import men’s suits for the local and the European markets.
Deputy Minister of Economy and Infrastructure Vitalie Iurcu said the event showed that Moldova has an open economy that continues to grow, with free access to international markets in the East and the West. Also, the authorities announced that regulations will be soon approved to provide state subsidies for creating new jobs – by 40,000 lei for each created job – as of next year. Thus, an entrepreneur that will create at least 100 jobs will ensure an average minimum salary of 75% of the official salary, keeping the conditions for a period of three years.
“We ended the current edition of the Moldova Business Week in the presence of the Prime Ministers of Moldova and Ukraine. We thus put the joint development of production and subsequent export to the EU, energy interconnection, infrastructure and transport projects, border traffic management and other issues on the economic and commercial cooperation program with the neighboring state,” said Vitalie Iurcu.
Some 40% of the participants in the event represented foreign companies. In the future, the business week is to be staged twice a year.
