The assistance of the authorities is needed in building an underwater barrage that would enable to supply Chisinau with water in emergencies. The dam should be built near the water pumping station in Vadul lui Voda town and this would help increase the level of water in the Nistru River, Doctor of Chemical Sciences Ion Cascaval said when answering questions put by clients of SA “Apa-Canal Chisinau”, IPN reports.
According to the scientist, to ensure Chisinau is supplied with water in emergencies, the competent state institutions must also help built artesian wells and close those that are very old by allocating external funds and money from the National Ecological Fund.
Another solution for ensuring that the water supply is not interrupted in emergencies is to design and build the Calarasi-Ungheni water pipeline. This will enable to connect the drinking water supply system of Chisinau municipality to the regional system of Iasi town, which has three safe sources of water in sufficient volumes.
The works to design the Chisinau-Straseni-Calarasi water pipeline with the diameter of 600-700 mm and a length of 56 km are carried out with money from the EU’s Neighborhood Investment Facility. Ion Cascaval considers this pipeline should be extended up to Iasi so that the people living in the area are supplied with water of a high quality. The regional water pipeline will cope with the situation. In case of an emergency, water can be temporarily pumped from Iasi to Chisinau.
