The Government took a series of measures to prevent the spread of flu following the increase in the number of infections near Moldova’s borders and the confirmation of new cases of flu. Under an order signed by Deputy Prime Minister Gheorghe Brega, the local authorities must avoid organizing events that involve a large number of people so as to reduce the risk of infection, IPN reports.

According to the Government’s press service, to prevent the spread of flu and acute respiratory infections, the authorities will put off the cultural-sports events, matinees and other similar activities in education institutions. The teachers and students will be informed about the risk of infection with the AH1N1 flu virus.

The persons with symptoms similar to those of flu must not be allowed to enter public institutions. These should be isolated and asked to do medical examinations. The Ministry of Health is to daily provide reports on the epidemiological situation as regards flu and acute and severe respiratory infections.

On February 9, the authorities said the epidemiological ceiling for acute respiratory infections was exceeded. The number of persons affected by such infections last week rose 1.2 times on the previous week to over 12,000 cases.

More than 300 cases of seasonal flu have been reported in Moldova so far this season. Three persons died after developing complications.
