Workers of the General Public Amenities Division started to clean the sidewalks, entrances to the yards of apartment buildings and public transport stations in the morning of March 18. On its Facebook page, the Division said about 350 workers manually spread sand and salt in stations and yards, IPN reports.
Also, there were involved 16 vehicles that spread antiskid material on sidewalks. Another 30 are ready to intervene with brooms and blades to deice surfaces.
In a press release, the Chisinau City Hall said a working meeting was convened in the morning to plan the snow removal and deicing works. This involved all the cleanup operators of the local public administration.
According to the director of the road maintenance company “Exdrupo” Adrian Boldurescu, even if there is ice on surfaces, all the streets in the municipality of Chisinau are passable and the company’s employees worked throughout the night. They involved 21 vehicles that spread antiskid material and 12 vehicles that clear the streets of ice and snow.
The municipal Green Areas Association engaged five units of transport and 68 workers in cleanup works in parks and on alleys.

The State Hydrometeorological Service issued a yellow code advisory for a sudden change in weather for the period between March 17 and 22. The passing Mediterranean cyclones will cause difficult meteorological conditions. It will rain on March 18, but on March 19 there will be sleet and snow and the precipitation will total 10-15 l/m2 in 12 hours. There will be snowstorms in parts. The northwestern wind will intensify to 15-20 m/s. The lowest temperatures will vary between -8 and -13 degrees Celsius until March 22. The highest ones will oscillate between 0 and -5 degrees Celsius.
