The authorities are considering reviving the National Children's Fund, which has been nonfunctional in the last 5 or 6 years because of a lack of money. Deputy Prime Minister has told Info-Prim Neo that the issue will be discussed at the next meeting of the National Council on Child Rights in October. The Fund was conceived to help children in socially vulnerable families, but no financing sources were identified. “I'm afraid the government can't contribute here. So we need to find sympathetic people who can contribute to this Fund”, said Mihai Moldovanu. He specified that the money is needed to cover the costs of a number of necessary services in addition to those provided by the government. According to a press release from Children's Ombudswoman Tamara Plamadeala, in 2010 the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Famili were tasked to consider the opportunity of reanimating the National Children's Fund, which didn't happen. At a recent meeting with Mihai Moldovanu, Tamara Plamadeala gave the example of Azerbaijan, where the president's wife heads a similar fund and coordinates fund-raising efforts.
