Operators will be able to contribute to reducing waste taken to landfills by up to 90% using an environmentally-friendly incineration procedure. The Cabinet approved regulations on waste inclination and co-incineration on the initiative of the Ministry of Environment, IPN reports.

The document stipulates the utilization conditions and strict technical requirements by setting emissions limits for incineration and co-incineration installations. According to the Ministry of Environment, the implementation of the regulations will help to gradually improve the quality of environment, air, water, soil and to reduce greenhouse gas emission, first of all methane emissions, and of risks to human health related to environmental pollution.

“The document will have a positive impact as it will contribute to reducing environmental pollution caused by waste and to diminishing the energy crisis, using waste in the energy process as alternative fuel,” stated Minister of Environment Iordanca-Rodica Iordanov.

The monitoring and implementation of the regulations will be the duties of the Environment Agency.
