The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration can fully cover the costs associated with the organizations of the July 11 snap elections outside the country with its own funds, Minister Aureliu Ciocoi stated in an interview for RFE/RL’s Moldovan Service, being quoted by IPN.

According to Aureliu Ciocoi, the CEC will decide whether to establish 153 polling stations abroad, as in the elections of last November, or a different number.

He also said that the acting Government and the CEC agreed that the funds intended for elections will be allocated in tranches. The first tranche is of 70 million lei. The rest of the money will be allotted depending on the subsequent requests of the electoral authorities.

The CEC estimated the costs associated with the organization of the snap parliamentary elections of July 11, 2021 at 125 million lei. Aureliu Ciocoi said the executive can provide at most 105 million lei as he Government’s Reserve Fund cannot be left empty.
