“As far as I understood, he referred to the peacekeeping mission and some of his statements were probably misinterpreted,” said President Igor Dodon, referring to the assertions of Minister of Foreign Affairs Aureliu Ciocoi, who said that Russia’s military intervention in the Nistru armed conflict of 1992 was aimed only at stopping the bloodshed, IPN reports.

The statements were made after the ordinary Monday meeting of senior state officials. In an interview, Minister Ciocoi also said that his declarations are interpreted and distorted. “What followed confirms that there is no general, unique, national approach. An extensive analysis of what happened between 1990 and July 1992, when a ceasefire agreement was signed between the then President of Russia Boris Yeltsin and the then President of Moldova Mircea Snegur, wasn’t carried out.

In another development, President Dodon said he has information that the Government decided to accept some of veterans’ demands. “There is a platform, the National Veterans Council led by Mister Gaiciuc. What the Government considers necessary and acceptable will be accepted, but the discussions should be continued on the given platform,” he stated.

The veterans requested the authorities to set up a veterans department under the Government that would focus on the restoration of the benefits granted by Moldova’s first Parliament to the veterans.
