The Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) suggests that President Maia Sandu should undertake a commitment on the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict. The document was presented at the Varnița – Tighina checkpoint on July 8. According to AUR, without the prior complete withdrawal of the Russian troops and munitions from the Republic of Moldova, any political negotiation of the Transnistrian conflict is exclusively in the interests of the Russian Federation, IPN reports.

The document notes that the country’s federalization (with the variant “special status” for the Transnistrian region) is the biggest danger as such a development will throw the Republic of Moldova into the sphere of influence of the Russian Federation for good. To prevent such a scenario, AUR proposes abiding by five principles, including the observance of the legislation of the Republic of Moldova as regards the tactic and strategy for resolving the Transnistrian despite by all the political players and the establishment in Transnistria of a system of power elected in a democratic way.

According to Dorin Chirtoacă, who runs for MP on behalf of AUR, it is absolutely necessary for the President of the Republic of Moldova, as the guarantor of the Constitution, to firmly undertake not to offer the seat of Prime Minister to a party that didn’t sign the proposed commitment and that does not obey the fundamental principles stipulated in the document.

Also today, members and sympathizers of AUR repeatedly tried to cross the Transnistrian border to campaign on the left side of the Nistru, but failed. Members of the party distributed informative materials on the spot.
