The Alliance for the Union of Romanians condemns Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. “We condemn this war that lacks any justification and demand to immediately stop it, to return to the negotiating table and to the diplomatic instruments,” said the party’s co-president, senator Claudiu Târziu, who heads the Commission for Romanians from Everywhere of the Senate of Romania.
In a news conference at IPN, senator Claudiu Târziu said the Romanians from both sides of the Prut showed exemplary solidarity with the Ukrainian refugees. “I saw mobilization that filled me with hope, both here, in the Republic of Moldova, and in motherland Romania. It is aimed at lending a hand to those who need it, who fled from the Russian tanks,” said the Romanian MP.
Claudiu Târziu called on the Moldovan administration, President Maia Sandu and the Government led by Natalia Gavrilița, to take into consideration and to make the approaches needed for the Republic of Moldova to withdraw from the Commonwealth of Independent States. “There is no motivation for Republic of Moldova to remain part of the CIS when Ukraine – a founding state – left this form of subjugation of nations by Russia,” stated the senator.
According to him, the Republic of Moldova does not enjoy any benefit from its membership in this community. On the contrary, it pays large dues to be a member of an organization that functions like a joint stock company in which Russia owns 51% of the shares. “I drew attention to this thing also from the rostrum of the Senate of Romania and do it here too in the hope that the Government of Moldova will do what it has to do to show its resolve to join the European Union. If the country filed an application to be ultimately accepted into the European Union, it should show it detaches itself from the Russian tutelage,” said Claudiu Târziu.
He noted that the reunification with the motherland Romania is the only swift and viable way for the integration of the Republic of Moldova into the EU. “This depends on the political will of the Parliaments in Bucharest and Chisinau and on nothing more. No one can prevent two states from uniting if they decide to do so,” stated the senator.
AUR MP Boris Volosatyi, a member of the Commission for the Romanian Communities from Outside the Country’s Borders of the Chamber of Deputies, said that the current developments that remind of the war to restore the USSR started not on February 24, 2022, but on March 2, 1992. “The current war is only a follow-up after a break and a reconsideration of the methods of restoring the same space of which we also formed part – the Soviet Empire. I’m overwhelmed by what is happening in Romania today as Romania is ready, from upper to grassroots levels, to accept Bessarabia back home. But there is a reality drawn not by us, but by Ribbentrop and Molotov and this yet persists as a historical reality,” stated Boris Volosatyi.
He noted that the visit that is to be paid today to the Republic of Moldova by the President of Romania Klaus Iohannis is a good occasion for guaranteeing the security of the citizens of Bessarabia amid the war in the East.
