Parliament named a new president at the Audit Office. This is Liberal MP Veaceslav Untila. In the same meeting, the MPs voted to end the term in office of the composition of the Audit Office headed by Serafim Urechean, who was appointed in April 2011, IPN reports.
Head of Parliament Andrian Candu suggested the candidate for the post of Audit Office president after holding consultations with the parliamentary groups.
Veacesla Untila entered Parliament in 2005, when he was the first deputy chairman of the party “Our Moldova” Alliance. He served as an MP until 2010, when he was chosen as chairman of the party “European Action” Movement. In 2011, the extraordinary congress of the “European Action” Movement decided to dissolve the party and to merge with the Liberal Party. Afterward, Veacesla Untila was chosen as deputy chairman of the Liberal Party. On September 26, 2012, Untila was named as director of the State Ecological Inspectorate of Moldova, being dismissed on June 5, 2013. In December 2014, he entered again Parliament and now heads the commission on national security, defense and public order.
In accordance with the legislation, the president of the Audit Office is appointed by Parliament for a five-year term, at the suggestion of the Speaker of Parliament, by a majority of votes of MPs.
