Three new members were named to serve on the Audiovisual Council. These are Ala Ursu-Antoci, Larisa Manole and Ion Robu. A decision to this effect was taken in the July 9 sitting of Parliament. The opposition MPs criticized the appointment, saying thus is a division agreement between the Party of Socialists and the Democratic Party, IPN reports.

Adrian Lebedinschi, who heads the Parliament’s commission on culture, education, research, youth, sport and the media, said the contest was held after three members of the Audiovisual Council, Dorina Curnic, Veronica Cojocaru and Olga Guțuțui, resigned.

Ala Ursu-Antoci and Larisa Manole, who were proposed by Parliament, will serve for the rest of the tenure, until December 7, 2023, while Ion Robu, who was fielded by the Presidential Office, will hold office until April 3, 2021.

In his speech, PPPDA MP Vasile Năstase said the contest to choose two members was mimicked. The legislature condemned party switching, but didn’t learn to condemn political divisions. This appointment is actually a deal struck by the PDM and PSRM.

PAS MP Lilian Carp also said that the contest was vitiated. He noted that the candidates proposed by political parties cannot be independent in taking decisions.
