A number of sportspersons and representatives of sports federations stated that they will support the chairman of the Party of Socialists Igor Dodon in the October 30 presidential elections. In a news conference at IPN, these said that owing to the support of Igor Dodon, they were able to take part in different competitions and to improve the training conditions in the country.
Powerlifting athlete Sergey Telikov said Igor Dodon has always helped the athletes. The Moldovan sports will only win if the country is headed by a President who knows the problems faced by the sportspersons and the sports sector in general.
Athlete Anastasia Karatkovaya said that she became acquainted with Igor Dodon when this was chosen as the president of the Chess Federation and, even if it was rumored that he was appointed based on political reasons, she saw in time that the politician built his image, but also contributed to developing the area. “With the assistance of Igor Dodon, we solved problems that many ignored,” she stated, noting that the politician helped to repair gymnasiums and to purchase literature for studying chess.
World arm-wrestling champion Constantin Barladeanu said that he permanently received support from Igor Dodon, including in promoting arm-wrestling in the country. “This politician helped me not only during election campaigns. He also assisted me in staging a tournament in southern Moldova without speaking publicly about this,” he said, adding that Igor Dodon is a good candidate for President because he makes effort to support all the social sections of the population.
Alexandru Siscan, chairman of the municipal Rugby Association, stated that the Association has been supported by Igor Dodon since its foundation, including by financing national and international competitions. “He is a great man who keeps his word and who is always ready to help the athletes. The country needs a person who does real things,” he said.
Sergey Bargan, the representative of the Chess Federation, said Igor Dodon has high moral standards and for this reason he was reelected as president of the Federation. “This man managed to bring around him everyone, including children and parents. In a rather short period of time, of five years, he did a lot. The number of children who play chess doubled. A higher number of competitions are organized,” he stated.
Olga Dicenko, the representative of the rhythmic gymnastics club “Armonia”, noted that Igor Dodon helped to improve the training conditions by contributing to a special carpet for training and the necessary equipment. The politician also sponsored the participation of the Moldovan women gymnasts in a number of international competitions.
Artur Romascan, who heads the Volleyball Federation, said that during the last two years they organized several important competitions with the assistance of Igor Dodon. Also, the sports schools received special sports equipment that is rather expensive. A President like Igor Dodon can contribute to solving system problems faced in the Moldovan sport.
