Moldovan athlete Zalina Margieva failed to reach the final of the Olympic Games in the hammer throw event. The 36-year-old athlete had a first failed attempt and in the next two attempts she failed to cross the 73-meter mark, IPN reports.

“I’m very glad that I managed to participate in the fifth edition of the Olympic Games in my sports career, to represent my country, my homeland. I obviously had expectations to have the best performance, but sport is sport and, unfortunately, it wasn’t my best day. But, anyway, I’m here, I fought. I am a fighter and I will keep my fingers crossed for our entire team,” said the athlete.

The best result of the season recorded by Zalina Marghieva was 75.95 m. The Olympic record (82.29 m), but also the world record (82.98 m) is held Poland’s Anita Wlodarczyc.

Zalina Marghieva set an absolute record for sport in the Republic of Moldova, being the athlete who has participated in five consecutive editions of the Summer Olympics.
