Members of the Association “Alga” called upon businessmen and politicians to put forward projects and contribute financial resources for solving the problem of stray dogs by building a sterilization clinic and a temporary shelter for them.

In a news conference at IPN on November 25, the Association’s head Valentina Dudnic said the authorities invoke the lack of money and the problem of stray dogs continues to exist. In the municipality of Chisinau, there are two dog shelters that are maintained with the support of volunteers, but their assistance is not sufficient. As regards the plot allocated by the Chisinau Municipal Council for building a shelter on it, the authorities do not have money for starting the construction, but also do not want to allow civil society to use it.

According to Valentina Dudnic, a number of volunteers from Ireland and Germany work now at the two shelters. They are bewildered by the deplorable situation of the stray dogs from the city and cannot understand how this problem can be neglected in a state with so many luxury cars and homes.

The activist called on the businessmen and politicians to contribute money for building the dog shelter and the clinic for sterilizing the stray dogs. According to members of “Alga”, about 1 million lei is needed for the purpose.

The representative of “Human Society” Valentina Furmanova said the stray dogs must be neutered so that they do not breed. A law should be adopted to institute punishment for the persons who take pets and then abandon them in the street and for those who poison the animals.

Before the winter holydays, “Alga” will stage a Christmas Caravan within which members of the Association, accompanied by dogs, will go to a number of orphanages.
