In a press release, the National Commission for Population and Development of Moldova says the improvement of the national capacities for collecting statistical data and for using these in working out national policies is essential, while the good practices of the Czech Republic are very useful for the Moldova.

Starting with 2013, the Charles University, which introduced demography as a science of study in 1899-1900, has implemented the project “Integrated Support for Elaborating Demographic Statistics (POSTDEMO)”. The project supports the harmonization of the national statistics service to the requirements of the European statistics system, with emphasis on population statistics. The partners and users of the project are the National Commission for Population and Development, the National Bureau of Statistics, the Center for Demographic Studies, the Academy of Economic Education, the State University of Moldova, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Justice.

Moldova remains at the top of the list of the states that enjoy development assistance from the Government of the Czech Republic. During the last 12 years, over 50 projects to the value of over €14 million were implemented in Moldova with support from the Czech Republic. The bilateral program of development assistance for 2011-2017 covers such areas as infrastructure, agriculture, environment protection, academic and research cooperation and strengthening of the relations between the Government and civil society.
