All the aspects that were discussed in the 5+2 format in Rome are very important , but are not related to the political settlement. On the contrary, it seems that the Republic of Moldova concedes particular elements of the national sovereignty, security expert of the Institute for Development and Social Initiative “Viitorul” Ion Tabirta stated in the talk show “Emphasis on today” on TVR Moldova channel, IPN reports.

According to the expert, the small steps policy was good when the relationship was unfrozen after the rapture of 2003-2004. The Party of Socialists is the voice of Tiraspol in Chisinau. “What the President and the Party of Socialists state centers more on the interests and position of Tiraspol in the Transnistrian conflict statement rather than on the real national interest of the Republic of Moldova and this is the big problem: we do not have a nationwide view,” said Ion Tabirta.

Alexandru Postica, programs director at “Promo-LEX” Association, said what is happening now in the relations between Chisinau and Tiraspol can be considered particular steps, but not these lead to the resolution of the dispute. “It is indeed the role of civil society to put here emphases on the main issues that show an irreversible reintegration process. What we have now are solutions to problems that have been on the agenda for a longer period of time,” he stated. According to him, these actions, such as the right to education and ownership, are processes that can anytime be thwarted.

All aspects of the “package of eight” will be finalized by the end of the year: this was the historic outcome of the 5+2 talks on the Transnistrian settlement process held in Rome on May 29 and 30 under the Italian OSCE Chairmanship. The commitment is reflected in the Rome Protocol signed by the Sides, mediators and observers. The Protocol outlines clear timelines and mechanisms to ensure the rapid finalization of the outstanding issues from the “package of eight” priorities identified by the Sides in 2017.
