The Moldovan athletes had a remarkable performance at the European WTF Taekwondo Championship, the Olympic version, held in Baku. After Stepan Dimitrov won gold, Vladislav Arventi managed to win bronze.
Servet Tazegul of Turkey became winner in the 68 kg class after beating Russia’s Alexei Denisenko in the final. Arventi also won bronze in the 2010 European Juniors Taekwondo Championship.
“I didn’t expect such remarkable results. The great surprise was produced by Stepan Dimitrov, who won the first European gold in the history of the Moldovan taekwondo. He was better than famous athletes from France and Russia. I’m very satisfied,” president of the Moldovan WTF Taekwondo Federation Igor Iuzefovici has told IPN.
Stepan Dimitrov became European champion in the 54 kg class after wining the final against Georgios Simitisis of Greece. At the European Taekwondo Championship, Moldova was represented by eight athletes.
