It’s a pity that the parliamentary parties didn’t accept to sit at the negotiating table together, as the Communists proposed by a call made several weeks ago. This would have been a good opportunity for discussing all the problems faced by the country, Communist MP Artur Reshetnikov said in the public debate “Why politicians again need time to form a majority coalition and what people in Moldova risk in such conditions?”, organized by IPN in concert with Radio Moldova.

“We suggested that all the parliamentary parties should form a responsible Government. But this would have been the second step. The first step was to hold a dialogue and discuss how the country should be developed. It’s not true that the Party of Communists does not have the experience of governing in a coalition. We now have 18 district councils where no party holds the majority and we take part in the election of the administration of these districts. We also voted together with the Lib-Dems and the Democrats. We encounter no problems there. We face problems with the leaders from Chisinau,” said the MP.

Speaking about the negotiations on the formation of a parliamentary majority, Artur Reshetnikov said the politicians must not make a show out of the discussions as the people need not shows, but better living conditions at home. “They are now discussing the posts that each party will hold. Someone wants the old posts, while others want new posts. The Communists do not want posts. We know that the people are split. Our duty is not to extend the gap between the people, but to narrow it. The posts should be entrusted to those we are the most suitable. The Communists’ call is not solely political. It is a call by which we want to save the state,” he stated.

The debate “Why politicians again need time to form a majority coalition and what people in Moldova risk in such conditions?” is the 40th installment of the series “Developing political culture by public debates”, staged with support from the German Foundation Hanns Seidel.
