Artur Gherman, former head of the National Commission for Financial Markets, considers that Vlad Filat is involved in the large-scale stealing committed at Banca de Economii (BEM) and that this thing wouldn’t have come out if this hadn’t been at odds with Vlad Plahotniuc. The statements were made in the talk show “Interpol” on TV 7 channel, IPN reports.
Gherman said that he was intimidated by Filat when he tried to speak about what was going on at the BEM. “I possessed information about the situation at the BEM since 2013, but when I tried to reveal things, in August 2013, I was phoned by Filat, who threatened me in an arrogant tone. I think I was later dismissed also because I wanted to speak,” he stated.
According to Gherman, the whole financial system of Moldova, including the banking and insurance sectors, is now controlled by Vlad Plahotniuc and Veaceslav Platon.
Artur Gherman said the imperfect legislation, political instability and corrupt system jeopardize the business climate in Moldova and erect obstacles to foreign investors. “If I was a businessman, I wouldn’t come to Moldova because the risks to which the investors are exposed here are great. The state, instead of helping the business sector, causes impediments to it. In the Republic of Moldova, we cannot be sure about tomorrow,” he stated.
The former member of the PLDM Artur Gherman held the post of head of the National Commission for Financial Markets since July 2013 until April 2015, when the MPs of the PLDM, PDM and PCRM voted for his dismissal and the dismissal of the National Bank vice governor Ema Tabarta following a report presented by a special commission of inquiry into the situation in the banking system.
