Society is extremely divided. Though a part of the people put their signature in favor of some of the aspirants, over half of the voters are in a state of aggression, lack interest and see in revolt the only solution for overcoming the current state of affairs and are ready to take part in it, considers the potential candidate for President Artur Croitor, who urged the political class not to play with the fire. The opinion was stated in the public debateSpecific features of the presidential elections 2016: vision of aspirants and candidates for the office of President of the Republic of Moldova”, which forms part of the series of electoral public debates “What kind of President is society looking for? What society does the President need?” that are organized by IPN News Agency.

Artur Croitor said the task of each candidate is to present the truth to the voters, but barriers are now intentionally placed by setting a required number of signatures so that honest people could not be chosen to government and those who have ruled for 25 years remained in power and maintained poverty. It is impossible to collect 20,000 signatures by honest ways when you do not have local bodies, are not a thief and do not have enough financial resources.

The aspirant considers a solution is to decrease the number of required signatures to 5,000, which is equal to the number of members needed to build a party. In the case of parties, their candidate should be registered as a result of a decision taken inside the party, while the independent candidates should collect 5,000 signatures. It’s not right for the signatures to be collected in half of the districts because an aspirant who collects signatures only in Chisinau is also representative and has the right to become President.

Artur Croitor noted the fact that the people can sign only for one candidate represents an illegality. Moreover, the people cannot withdraw the signatures during the signature collection campaign in order to sign for another person. It would be right to allow the people to sign for a number of potential candidates. The stamp that must be put by mayors is another barrier placed in front of the independent candidates. The people from villages are simply afraid to sign for other candidates than for those who are supported by their mayors.

He considers it’s good that direct elections will be held after so many years. It is an exercise that makes the voters more mature and the task is to bring the truth to the voters. At the times time, the elections are doubtful because the Constitutional Court’s decision by which the people’s vote to choose the Head of State was restored is doubted inside the country and outside it too.

The September 27 public debate is the 62nd installment of the series of public debates “Developing political culture by public debates” that are staged by IPN with the assistance of the German foundation “Hanns Seidel”.
