Artists from Moldova to take part in “Doina Covurluiului” Folklore Festival in Galati

Folklore ensembles from the Republic of Moldova, “Lupii lui Calacea” and the Osoianu Sisters will participate in “Doina Covurluiului” International Folklore Festival that will take place on August 23-26 at the Botanical Garden in Galati, Romania, IPN reports, with reference to monitoruldegalati.ro.

According to the quoted source, the 17th edition of the Festival will bring together approximately 270 artists, gathered in folklore ensembles of Romania, the Republic of Moldova, Italy, Egypt, Georgia, Ukraine, Cyprus, North Macedonia and Slovakia, who will bring on stage ancient traditions and customs, in a show full of colors and rhythms.

Costel Fotea, head of the Galati County Council, said that for four days the Botanical Garden will host a marathon of amusement and entertainment and become a real kingdom of authentic folklore.

“From the Romanian costume to the traditional Georgian costumes, from the folk dances specific to Egypt or Cyprus to the Romanian round dances, the audience will enjoy an impressive show. In the evening, some of the most loved and appreciated artists of Romania will take the stage with recitals: Taraful din Clejani, Doiniţa and Ionuţ Dolănescu, Taraful Cleante, Maria Dragomiroiu and Lupii lui Calancea with the Osoianu Sisters. The International Folklore Festival “Doina Covurluiului” is a tradition of our city, an event that promotes authentic cultural values,” stated Costel Fotea.

In parallel with the folklore shows, a craft fair will be mounted and 50 craftspeople will exhibit their creations. Visitors will be able to see and purchase unique handicrafts.

The shows will start every evening at 06:00 p.m. Entrance is free of charge. The event is organized by the Galati County Council, through the agency of the “Lower Danube” Cultural Center.
