A number of artists, including the daughter of the late stage manager Tudor Tataru, said that one year after the forced taking over of the municipal company “Buciumul” Studio, the authorities did nothing to reopen it. Moreover, the studio’s doors continue to be sealed and access to it is restricted by the guard.

In a news conference at IPN on November 24, the master’s daughter, stage manager Viorica Tataru said it is one year since the Studio “Buciumul” was taken over by force by a group of functionaries of the Chisinau City Hall, headed by Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca. Then, the Tataru family was told to pay the studio. The door was sealed up and the institution is protected by private guards. Viorica Tataru noted that she cannot take her personal belongings from the studio as her access to the territory of the studio is barred.

Viorica Tataru said that she repeatedly asked the local authorities to stop the illegalities committed at “Buciumul”, but she has yet received no answer. She went to court, but the lawsuit was rejected. The authorities want to appropriate the studio because it is located in the center of Chisinau.

“We all want to find out the future plans of the Chisinau City Hall concerning “Buciumul”. Why don’t we receive answers to the letters and complaints filed to Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca? What is the goal of taking over the studio besides holding parties there, spreading immoral behavior and blocking access to that place?” asked Viorica Tataru.

Artist Anatol Latyshev said that earlier this studio hosted cultural activities, but now is guarded and the artists cannot enter it. “It’s a great pity that this creation of our great scriptwriter, artist and stage manager Tudor Tataru is now forgotten and goes to rack and ruin,” he stated, adding he will ask that the Union of Musicians should bear the name of Tudor Tataru

Artist Maria Stoianov said that “Buciumul” was a place where everyone could rest and spend the time pleasantly. Now it is closed and the local authorities make only empty promises. “I don’t think that only Viorica Tataru with her family must struggle for this studio. We all must fight for it,” she stated.

The independent folklore and comedy films studio “Buciumul” was set up by Tudor Tataru in 1992. In 1996 it was transferred to the municipal authorities of Chisinau.
