The Moldovan artist Ghenadie Popescu crossed seven European countries by bicycle and in the end published his log entitled “The Popescu Chronicles”, at the initiative of the Grenoble Ecole du Magasin, France, which has presented on Tuesday, May 29, its International Curatorial Studies Programme, launched in 1987. The event was presented by the project participants Lore Gabriel from France and Vladimir Us from Moldova, and was hosted by the French Alliance. “The Popescu chronicles” represents a collection of almost 200 messages sent during his trip through SMS, e-mail, fax, as well as more than 500 photos of the artist showing his true feelings about the journey. The book is going to be published at the Bernard Carlierdin Valence French publishing house. His notes like the one below: “Here mandarins grow on the main streets. They lie on the ground like walnuts at home. I can’t believe my eyes. It’s incredible. No one here climbs the trees to pick them. The night falls.” can already be found on: http://oberliht.org.md/cronici/CronicileLuiPopescu.pdf. Interviewed by Info-Prim Neo, Ghenadie Popescu said that although it is not for the first time that he travels by bicycle, as he has done it previously in ’93 and in ’97, in his “Chronicles” there are his impressions only on the last trip, realised between June 8 and July 11, 2006. As Popescu said, it is because “the previous trips were just trifles and this one is silent protest against the word acceleration.” “The Popescu Chronicles” are presented at the “Constantin Brancusi” Exhibition Centre. The “Chronicles” are part of the “Un pas de cote” project proposed by the 15th session of the Ecole du Magasin. Ecole du Magasin is the first curatorial programme that organises exhibitions all around Europe.
