Artist Maria Stoianov was discharged from the post of director of the Epic Theater of Ethnography and Folklore “Ion Creangă” in Chisinau, by order of the Minister of Cutlure Sergiu Prodan. The information was published on the Theater’s Facebook page, IPN reports.
“I had managed the Theater during a year. As in any other group, we have a minority and a majority. During a year, I worked very prodigiously and did so that we were heard at national and international levels. I’m withdrawing as the minister of culture issued an order to dismiss me from the post of director, based on complaints, betrayals and conflicts of interest at the Ministry,” Maria Stoianov stated in a video for the media.
The staff of “Ion Creangă” Theater published a letter addressed to President Maia Sandu by which it asked to become personally involved in the situation created at the Theater and to reinstate Maria Stoianov as director general.
Spokeswoman for the Presidential Office Sorina Ștefârță has told IPN that the presidential administration received the staff’s letter, is examining it and will later provide a response.
Maria Stoianov had managed “Ion Creangă” Theater since October 2020.
