Archeological research conducted near “Saint Emperors Constantine and Helena” Church

Archeologists are doing research near “Saint Emperors Constantine and Helena” Church and the cemetery of Visterniceni village that now became part of Râşcani district of Chisinau. Contacted by IPN for details, the archeological group’s manager, historian and archaeologist Sergiu Musteață said that they are looking for traces of the bastion fortress of Chisinau dating from the 19th century.

The works are conducted by the State Teacher Training University “Ion Creangă” that won the tender contest to provide archeological research services in a number of areas of the municipality of Chisinau.

The Teacher Training University “Ion Creangă” will do archeological research in a number of areas and will also perform related activities, such as the location of the church museum and “Saint Archangel Michal and Gabriel” Church, examinations of the cemetery of “Saint Emperors Constantine and Helena” Church (Visterniceni) and of the Old Market area of the Chisinau Fair (courtyard of Maternity Hospital No. 2).

At the end of the research work, a conference will be held to present the results.

The project is fully financed with funds from the municipal budget and is one of the first investments made by the Chisinau City Hall for this district.

The Church “Saint Emperors Constantine and Helena” is among the oldest churches of the city.
