The appointment of Eugen Sturza as minister of defense is a small political victory of the European People’s Party of Moldova (PPEM). The opinion was stated in the program “Moldova live” on the public TV channel, IPN reports.

Political commentator Victor Ciobanu said the so-called crisis related to the appointment of the minister of defense was an attempt made by President Igor Dodon to save his honor after he was deprived of leverage in all the law enforcement areas. Eugen Sturza’s experience is insufficient given his studies and the fact that he held only two posts of adviser.

Analyst Corneliu Ciurea said it is about foreign policy issues, like neutrality and the cooperation with NATO. The states of the world follow attentively the developments around this ministry. “For example, Igor Dodon wanted to have not a military man at the ministry, but rather Mister Gaiciuc, who is a convinced supporter of neutrality for life and, even if he was ambassador to NATO, he is not a committed friend of this military organization,” stated the analyst. According to him, the appointment of Eugen Sturza as minister is a small political victory of the PPPEM, which actually favors the cooperation with NATO.

Ion Ranga, a member of the European People’s Party of Moldova, said the defense sector is the one in which the least has been done during the past 25 years. Eugen Sturza comes with the necessary experience and expertise and knows exactly what he has to do. “We will start with the development of the cooperation relations with our international partners, the U.S., NATO, and the EU, as we saw that we lost several opportunities during the past few months,” he stated.

Eugen Sturza was invested as minister of defense on October 24, following the signing of the appointment decree by Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu, who held office of President of Moldova on an interim basis to be able to do this.
