The appointment of Silvia Radu and Ruslan Codreanu as deputy mayors, with the first serving also as acting mayor general of Chisinau municipality, was a subject of heated debates between representatives of the Liberal Party and the bloc of the European People’s Party of Moldova on the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC). The Liberals consider this is an illegal decision, while the representatives of the bloc maintain it is fully in accordance with the law. The issue was developed in the program “Union Square” on Noroc TV channel, IPN reports.

Liberal councilor Ion Cebanu said that all the information he possesses shows that Silvia Radu is the candidate of the Democratic Party. Silvia Radu was named acting mayor by order of Nistor Grozavu illegally because the latter was named acting mayor by the CMC, while Dorin Chirtoaca, who was empowered to do this according to law, was elected by 163,000 people.

Veaceslav Bulat, councilor of the bloc of the European People’s Party of Moldova, noted the appointment of Silvia Radu and Ruslan Codreanu as deputy mayors is not an illegality. The law on the status of Chisinau municipality provides that there should be four deputy mayors. “What happened today is nothing else but exact implementation of the law,” he stated, adding that the necessity of appointing deputy mayors has been discussed for ten years and in 2017 the Chisinau City Hall didn’t yet have all the deputy mayors. “This mistake was to be corrected.”

On November 6, Silvia Radu and Ruslan Codreanu were named deputy mayors of Chisinau by order of the acting mayor. Nistor Grozavu also issued a statement whereby he announces that he leaves the post of acting mayor general of Chisinau and this post will be held by Silvia Radu.
